Branding makes or breaks a business, I knew that. When you share your passion, it feels like you’re releasing your child into the world. You want everything to be perfect and for the world to shine kindly down upon your baby. You wait so long to share it. When is the right time? When will you be ready? When I opened StarDogDesigns all those years ago, I’d had a shiny blue notebook of shiny ideas hanging around for what seemed like forever. It circled around me, waiting for that right time to pounce but always too afraid. I needed the perfect logo. I couldn’t start a shop without the perfect logo. It had to be perfect! Branding can break a business, I knew.
On a chilly night at the end of December I decided enough was enough. What exactly was holding me back? I had so many potential ideas I’d spent hours pouring over. I drew different variations of each budding logo, again and again in my faithful blue notebook. Finally tossing that to one side, I turned to my trusty old laptop; battered from many years writing university nursing essays. A logo must be simple and I’d made the process of finding one anything but. Within moments I had it. The geometric StarDogDesigns logo you see today. I’ve had so many compliments on that logo. Something made in mere minutes in Paint after weeks of deliberation.
With the final piece in place, I opened my Etsy shop that very night. Eighteen odd months later, I opened my second. Branding is important and whilst it can make a business, it will never break a business as much as never starting one will. Get your work up and out there, perfection can come later. You might be surprised at the good that can come forth.
