About me (and the whippet!)
Hi there!
I’m Emily, an animal and houseplant obsessed illustrator who can’t walk down the street without pointing out all the different dogs she sees!
I live in Cheshire, UK with my partner and our whippet. After leaving nursing because of my health, I finally started drawing again using my gorgeous whippet Ziggy as inspiration. Drawing has always been my passion but I had always been told that it was impossible to make a career out of it. Using my knowledge gained from running an online shop selling custom dog wear, I finally decided to make my dream career a reality in December 2019.
Predominantly known for my custom work, I love nothing more than to lovingly illustrate drawings of your beautiful pets.
Every time I’m told I’ve captured their personalities and quirks in an illustration that you’ll treasure forever, my heart soars. I’ve had so many wonderful messages from people who’ve received drawings, from those who’ve received them as gifts to those who’ve sort me out to create something in memory. It sounds like a cliché to say that are pets aren’t just animals, they’re family, but it’s true.
Ziggy came into our lives when I was working as a nurse in emergency care. Nursing was wonderful and rewarding but also stressful and harsh. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t had our little pup to come home to. He got me out of the house and adventuring around the country, exactly when I needed it most. He may hog the sofa but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I know what he means to me and for that reason, it’s always an honour to create something of your pets that means so much to you.
It’s not all pets though… I’ve got far more houseplants than sense!
As well as my custom pieces, my website shop also stocks a large range of illustrated greetings cards, art prints and t-shirts. Whilst lots of my work is pet based, you’ll find a number of other things I love here. Be it a print inspired by the TV show Fleabag or a greetings card with a drawing of a manatee on it, you’ll find it there. With chronic conditions including EDS, endometritis and anxiety and a love of houseplants, I also hope to release collections of wellbeing and plant inspired prints.
I’m obsessed with houseplants and you might have already seen my jungle-like office, filled to the brim with lush green. I’m a huge advocate for plants for mental health and always know that I’m feeling down when I see my plants start to wilt from a lack of love.
As I write, I’m sat at my desk, the sun streaming in through the window. The sunlight dapples on the desk, the light trickling through the fronds of the plants hanging from the curtain rail. It’s times like these that I’m at my happiest. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and the calming presence of green, the whippet curls up by my feet. Sitting working at my desk is my happy place, whether it be talking to you about your pets and what you want in your drawing, connecting with you all on Instagram or designing a new product I know you’ll love.
And the whippet?
Ziggy is our gorgeous little whippet. Named after Bowie’s alter ego, Ziggy Stardog LOVES his squeaky ball and baby hedgehog toy, Hog, and often uses then to remind me it’s time to stop working and play. A typical speedy sighthound, Ziggy won’t leave the house in the cold without being wrapped up warm. He knows he looks fabulous and is often stopped by people for a cuddle. When not zooming around, his default mode is a good nap, cuddled up in a blanket with one of his humans. He spends his days in bliss, being covered with blankets whenever he demands, chomping on chews and lying on my feet as I work like a rather odd pair of slippers.
To be honest though, I can’t say he pulls his weight with the whole illustration thing. He’s all paws and no ability to hold a pen… 😂
