Five reasons why a custom drawing makes the best gift!

Buying the perfect present for the person who’s got everything is darn hard! Gift giving then becomes a stressful event, trawling the shops for ‘another gift to get’ and we all know that present shopping this year is going to be a lot more stressful with the restrictions that will be in pace for COVID-19.

As an artist who’s known for custom pet portraits, I’ve seen time and time again why a personalised drawing can make the best gift. Be it for those people who don’t need anything extra or the one who’s been vague about what they’d like, custom drawings knock it out of the park every time.

 1. You’ve REALLY thought of something they love when buying

Think about it, chances are they take every opportunity to tell you about what their cats been up to, or how derpy their dog is. We LOVE our pets! A friend of mine is recall training her bird and another has just got a new rescue cat, a cat who’s going to be the most spoilt moggy ever! If you haven’t guessed already, my whippet is my world and I love him dearly. Even that work friend you’ve never met outside of work, chances are you know all about what her cat has been eating for tea!

2. It shows you’ve put the extra mile in.

Let’s be honest, you’re not going to be walking down the high street and see a hand drawn art print of your mum’s favourite photograph of her terrier. That’s a GOOD thing. A custom drawings show you went the extra mile and commissioned the perfect present off your own back, knowing that your Mum (and her terrier!) would love it. It wasn’t ‘just another gift to get’, it was something you put thought into. You’ve chosen to support a small business, ordered ahead of time and got a beautifully wrapped gift ready to give to them.

 3. Nobody else will have bought the same gift.

Too often, we’re faced with the dilemma of giving the same gift. Chances are, if you’ve asked somebody what they’d like for a gift, they’re already told someone else who’ll be heading out to buy it as you speak. The greatest part of giving personalised gifts is that this conundrum can be easily avoided!

4. They’re unique!

When I send off the proofs to my custom drawings, I’m often told that I ‘got their expression just right!’ Sometimes, we see a card or a picture or a black and white spaniel and we immediately think of someone, like my parent’s and their lovely sprocker spaniel Buddy. When I see something with a golden retriever on, a little bulb clicks on in my head and I immediately think of a friend with a retriever. However, none of these things are going to capture Buddy’s spotty markings or Daisy’s slack jawed grin when she see’s you. It takes something that’s been custom made for them to make the best gift. Something that’s uniquely them.

 5. They’re treasured for a lifetime!

Virus or not, I always struggle to buy for adults. Did you know that in 2018, the UK spent an estimated £700 MILLION on unwanted presents at Christmas alone? Most people just go out and buy the things they might want when they want them and that leaves little left to be bought as presents by others. This is why I love giving people personalised drawings of their pets. For the perfect personalised present, I’m often given one of the recipient’s favourite photos. From that, I’m able to draw an art print of their furry friend that they’ll treasure for a lifetime.

It’s clear to see why custom drawings are the best gift. I mean, is it really a home until your dog has their own art wall?
